Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced new U.S. visa restrictions on 18 Iranian officials in reaction to that regime’s suppression of internet access for its people.
This crackdown aims to stand up for individual rights and accountability amid ongoing anti-government demonstrations in Iran.
“The regime-imposed a near-total nationwide internet shutdown, unprecedented in scope and duration, that severely restricted independent documentation of abuses and cut Iranians off from the world,” the press release stated.
“Even today, the regime continues to restrict the ability of Iranians to exercise their basic freedoms.”
