Senator Calls for TSA to Bring Back Shoes-Off Airport Rule

Liberty Check

  • Senator Tammy Duckworth is urging the TSA to reinstate the shoes-off screening requirement at airports.
  • She says the current shoes-on policy puts traveler safety at risk and conflicts with federal law.
  • Supporters of the change argue modern scanning technology makes the older rule unnecessary.

Senator Tammy Duckworth is demanding that the TSA reinstate the requirement for travelers to remove their shoes at airport checkpoints.

She says the shift to a shoes-on process reflects a willingness to gamble with American security.

“Secretary Noem’s willingness to gamble the American people’s security in an unsuccessful attempt to boost her popularity was, and remains, a stunning failure of leadership,” Duckworth claimed.

The previous policy requiring passengers to take off their shoes during TSA screening was implemented in 2006.

The senator also argued that the policy change ignored classified warnings about scanner effectiveness.

It remains to be seen whether DHS will reverse course and restore the older rule.

Our freedoms depend on staying vigilant.
