Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin recently fell into a rhetorical trap by claiming America is a nation of immigrants. This tired trope serves only to silence necessary debates about border security and the deportation of those here illegally.

We are not a nation of immigrants; we are a nation of citizens. Labeling every American an immigrant because of prehistoric migrations ignores the reality of sovereign borders and the constitutional rights of current taxpayers.

Progressives prioritize their own political survival over the rule of law. They frame deportation as hatred to distract from their goal of artificially padding the voter rolls with illegal arrivals.

Citizens must demand that leaders reject lazy slogans and enforce the laws already on the books. Our national identity depends on a clear distinction between legal residents and those who violate our sovereignty.
