  • President Trump bypasses elite institutions to directly honor an American sports icon with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
  • The announcement underscores the administration’s commitment to recognizing merit over political correctness and institutional gatekeeping.
  • By praising Clemens for putting America first, Trump reinforces traditional values of patriotism and national pride in public life.

Roger Clemens expected only to introduce President Trump at a Republican National Committee rally in San Antonio. Instead, the Commander in Chief stunned the crowd by announcing that the former MLB star will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Trump described the honor as “the single highest award along with the Medal of Honor,” placing Clemens among the most distinguished recipients in the nation.

“Well, I’m stunned, No. 1. Again, 24 years y’all – this supersedes obviously anything I’ve done in my playing career,” Clemens told the cheering audience. “To get it from this man, this president. There wouldn’t be another president I’d want to get it from.”

“Announcing it here in my home state, and again, from this man. You talk about a winner – that’s a winner right there.”

Trump also renewed his call for Clemens to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, criticizing the professional sports establishment for allowing alleged steroid-era controversies to overshadow the pitcher’s remarkable career achievements.

“What a privilege it is for me to intro our great president,” Clemens had said earlier while introducing Trump. “A man that loves our country, that puts all of us first, and puts America first.”

“And don’t forget, this is really important, this man put his life on the line for us. Don’t ever forget that.”

The moment highlighted Trump’s willingness to champion traditional American heroes who may be overlooked by elite institutions more focused on political narratives than merit.

The Constitution must be defended.
