A Massachusetts federal judge, Mark L. Wolf, publicly resigned after forty years, blaming President Trump’s alleged “attacks on the courts.” He used an op-ed to express his belief that the Trump administration’s approach to the rule of law left him “compelled to speak out.”

Wolf claimed Trump targeted opponents through legal means while protecting allies, accusing the administration of politicizing justice. He compared Trump’s actions to Nixon’s, arguing the conduct was now routine and open instead of covert.

Wolf also said his ability to address these issues had been hindered by judicial ethics while serving as a judge. He described watching the Trump administration from the bench “in dismay and disgust,” asserting that he was unable to speak openly due to necessary restrictions.

He described a rise in threats to judges and criticized Trump for allegedly weakening offices tasked with investigating corruption. Wolf stated he wanted to represent judges who feel they cannot comment candidly under current rules.
