A Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan stunned Fox News viewers Monday night by refusing to give a straight answer on whether children should be allowed to undergo irreversible gender procedures. Instead, Abdul El-Sayed tried to reframe the question entirely.

Appearing on Jesse Watters Primetime, El-Sayed was asked point-blank about his position on sex changes for minors. Rather than offering a clear yes or no, the progressive candidate invoked the “Right to Try” law — a policy designed to give terminally ill patients access to experimental treatments.

“I remember having great conversations with my conservative” colleagues about healthcare freedom, El-Sayed began, attempting to draw a parallel between dying cancer patients and children seeking gender transition procedures. The deflection was immediate and transparent.

The “Right to Try” comparison is a brazen attempt to obscure the real issue. That legislation was created to help adults facing imminent death access treatments after exhausting all other options. Healthy children seeking irreversible hormonal and surgical interventions are not remotely comparable.

El-Sayed’s pivot reveals a deeper problem within the Democratic Party: candidates know their positions on gender ideology are deeply unpopular with most Americans, especially parents. So instead of defending those positions on the merits, they hide behind abstract concepts like “healthcare freedom” and “government overreach.”

The irony is rich. These are the same politicians who demanded vaccine mandates, supported lockdowns that destroyed small businesses, and cheered when doctors lost their licenses for questioning COVID protocols. But when it comes to experimental gender treatments for children, suddenly they’re champions of medical autonomy.

Michigan families deserve to know exactly where their Senate candidates stand on protecting children. A simple question deserves a simple answer. El-Sayed’s evasion speaks volumes.

Conservatives have been warning for years that the left’s gender agenda would target younger and younger children. Democrats called it a conspiracy theory. Now their own candidates can’t even defend their position when asked directly on national television.
