Should the U.S. Continue Sending Migrants to Guantánamo Despite Mexico’s Objections?
Here’s The Scoop
In a bold move to address the ongoing crisis at the southern border, the Trump administration has initiated flights transporting illegal migrants to the Guantánamo Bay detention facility. This decisive action underscores President Trump’s commitment to safeguarding American citizens and upholding the rule of law.
Despite Mexico’s opposition to sending its nationals to Guantánamo, the administration remains steadfast in its efforts. Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Juan Ramon de la Fuente, expressed his country’s preference to directly receive their migrants, sending a diplomatic note to the U.S. embassy to clarify their stance.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that flights have begun, emphasizing that the administration is fulfilling its promise to utilize Guantánamo Bay’s capacity for those who have violated U.S. immigration laws and committed serious crimes against Americans. This move is part of a broader strategy to expand the detention camp’s capacity to hold up to 30,000 individuals, a necessary step in managing illegal immigration and protecting American communities.
Critics, including Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, have predictably decried this initiative, labeling it an “act of brutality.” However, it’s important to remember the primary goal here: ensuring the safety and security of American citizens. The Guantánamo facility, originally established for high-risk detainees post-9/11, provides a secure location to house these individuals away from the mainland.
With one flight already en route from Fort Bliss and another having departed on Monday, the administration is taking concrete steps to address the illegal immigration crisis head-on. This action is a testament to President Trump’s unwavering dedication to securing the border and maintaining the integrity of the nation’s immigration system.
As the administration continues to implement these measures, it remains to be seen how Mexico and other nations will respond. Nonetheless, President Trump, alongside allies like Pete Hegseth and Kristi Noem, is demonstrating a clear commitment to putting American citizens first.

If Mexico and other countries don’t like that then accept these people back. Otherwise Gitmo works. Or, drop ship them off the back end of a C30 cargo plane with parachutes of course

You’re wasting more money with giving them parachutes

All illegals that want to go back to their home country need to step forward and give up to the law, otherwise if they are hunted down and arrested, they need to go to Guantanamo prison! Problem solved and all illegals will be gone faster!

Mexico should have stopped their people from Invading America if they cared so much about them.

No way should an illegal from anywhere be allowed to break the law and just be sent home! They should be incarcerated somewhere to pay a price for their crimes, then sent home

We have to keep in mind that initially, we are rounding up the worst of the worst … so for those, I believe sitting in Gitmo for a few years is fine … or at least time to negotiate a release to the country of origin if that country has prosecuted them for a crime that will result in prison time in their home country … then I believe it is fine to release them in shackles to law enforcement in their home country. Those that are swept up in raids that have not committed crimes beyond illegal immigration can wait at Gitmo until country is ready to accept them. Might even say, it’s their responsibility to come get them. But then again, I’ve always thought that putting them in the cargo hold of a cargo ship transporting them to waters offshore their home country. Then give them a life preserver and then tell them what direction they need to swim. Could also notify home country they have some of their people that need rescue … but this may violate some international norm for behavior at sea.

Yeah, Mexico wants their illegals sent straight back to Mexico so they can end-up back in the U.S. in just a couple days and there’s no significant lapse in the remittance money these criminals rob from the American economy and send back to their families – which accounts for a large portion of the Mexican economy.

If they cool their heels in GTMO for a while, they will have time to reconsider sneaking into the US.

El Salvador will take them and lock them up in their prison, and I’ve seen how that prison works, I damn sure would not want to go there.

Where we put migrating aliens legal or illegal is no business of Mexico. It is up solely to the executive branch of the USA.
