Trump Targets Fed Chair Amid Probe Into Costly Renovations

  • Accountability for unelected bureaucrats must be a priority to protect the American taxpayer.
  • The Federal Reserve’s massive spending on renovations highlights the lack of oversight in shadow government agencies.
  • Presidential authority to remove officials for incompetence is essential for maintaining constitutional order and fiscal discipline.

President Donald Trump recently signaled a potential showdown with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell over allegations of gross incompetence. During a recent interview, the President made it clear that if Powell refuses to vacate his position when his chairmanship expires, a forced removal is on the table.

The tension centers on a criminal probe into the renovation of the Federal Reserve’s headquarters. While Powell previously stated he had no intention of leaving his post early, Trump criticized the chairman’s handle on both interest rates and the agency’s internal management.

“Well then I’ll have to fire him, OK, if he’s not leaving on time,” Trump stated.

“I’ve held back firing him. I’ve wanted to fire him, but I hate to be controversial, you know.”

Trump further highlighted the staggering cost overruns for the Fed’s building projects, which have reportedly ballooned to $3.1 billion. He compared the project’s failures to his own private sector success.

The Fed has allegedly demolished a historic structure for a project currently mired in delays.

“It’s more than a criminal probe. It’s a criminal probe, I guess, but it’s also a probe of incompetence,” Trump remarked regarding the construction costs.

Republicans have already taken action, with Representative Anna Paulina Luna referring Powell to the Justice Department for allegedly misleading Congress about these building renovations. Conservatives argue that such fiscal irresponsibility at the highest levels of the central bank cannot be ignored.

Americans deserve better.
