  • Injury recovery now dictates the return timeline for the world’s elite athletes.

Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz has officially withdrawn from the French Open due to a persistent wrist injury.

The decision comes after recent tests necessitated a cautious approach to his recovery and future health.

“After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing is to be cautious and not participate in Rome and Roland Garros, while we wait to assess the evolution to decide when we will return to the court,” Alcaraz posted to social media.

“It’s a complicated moment for me, but I’m sure we’ll come out stronger from here.”

The No. 2-ranked Spaniard was injured earlier this month at the Barcelona Open and subsequently withdrew from the Madrid Open.

This setback marks a significant shift for the youngest man to ever win all four Grand Slam titles.

The era of dominance by a select few continues to be challenged by the physical demands of high-level competition.

This vacancy in the bracket opens the door for new contenders to rise on the world stage.

Our freedoms depend on staying vigilant.
