Supreme Court Justice Issues Rare Apology for Colleague Remarks

Liberty Check

  • Judicial decorum and professionalism are essential to maintaining the integrity of the nation’s highest court.
  • Personal attacks on the backgrounds of colleagues serve to further politicize the judicial branch.
  • The incident highlights a deep-seated bias against conservative perspectives on the current bench.

During her remarks at the University of Kansas School of Law, Sotomayor took aim at a concurrence Kavanaugh wrote regarding immigration enforcement operations.

She claimed his perspective was flawed because he was raised by professionals and likely did not know anyone who worked by the hour.

“At a recent appearance at the University of Kansas School of Law, I referred to a disagreement with one of my colleagues in a prior case, but I made remarks that were inappropriate,” Sotomayor said in a statement released by the court.

“I regret my hurtful comments. I have apologized to my colleague.”

The underlying legal dispute involved the Trump administration’s ability to conduct immigration enforcement without judicial micromanagement.

Kavanaugh had joined the majority in allowing enforcement sweeps to resume, upholding the principle that executive agencies must be allowed to function without constant interference from lower courts.

While Sotomayor claims to regret the personal nature of her attack, the rhetoric demonstrates a troubling tendency to replace constitutional analysis with identity politics.

Conservative justices often face these types of baseless smears simply for adhering to the rule of law rather than activist agendas.

The Constitution must be defended.

The ongoing political war in America is now extending as far as SCOTUS and it’s obama sleeper judges of which Sotomayor is one.
