California Democrats are pushing a controversial bill that critics warn will effectively criminalize investigative journalism and shield taxpayer-funded groups from public oversight.

The legislation, dubbed the Privacy for Immigration Support Services Providers act, threatens citizen journalists with massive fines for filming in public spaces near immigration service centers.

Riley Gaines and Shirley pointed out the hypocrisy of protesters who stay silent while the state adopts authoritarian tactics.

By shielding organizations from transparency, the state is prioritizing bureaucratic secrecy over the fundamental constitutional right to a free press.

“They are actually trying to suppress our speech by trying to pass a bill that it’s a direct attack on our First Amendment,”

Shirley said during the interview.

This legislative move sets a dangerous precedent for government-sanctioned censorship across the country.

Americans must remain vigilant against state-level efforts to redefine harassment as a tool to stifle legitimate public inquiry.

The Constitution must be defended.
