DHS Warns of Northern Border Security Risks After Piracy-Linked Arrest
A Somali illegal immigrant with ties to international piracy and a warrant for passport fraud was recently apprehended near the U.S.-Canada border. Fingerprint records from a 2012 U.S. Navy operation in the Gulf of Aden confirmed the suspect was part of an armed group that hijacked an Indian-flagged vessel.
This individual managed to enter the United States in 2022 and remained despite multiple encounters with law enforcement. Authorities said the suspect was previously detained in 2024 during a search for fraudulent documents before his most recent arrest in North Dakota.
Liberty Check
- Strong border enforcement is essential to keep high-risk individuals from moving freely across the country.
- When federal agencies fail to act, state and local communities are left more vulnerable to dangerous repeat offenders.
- Protecting the rule of law requires stopping known criminal actors before they can settle into American communities.
“Weak Biden administration border policies allowed this illegal alien to enter and remain in the country despite his multiple law enforcement encounters,” DHS acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said.
The safety of American citizens is jeopardized when border security is treated as an afterthought. National sovereignty depends on the ability to vet and exclude those who pose a threat to our communities.
The Constitution must be defended.
