A promising young professional golfer died this week at just 18 years old after suffering a catastrophic brain hemorrhage during a tournament in Thailand. The sports world is mourning the devastating loss of a rising star whose future was filled with limitless potential.

Jessica Bang collapsed while competing in the KLPGA Tour’s International Qualifying Tournament on Aug. 1. She was rushed to Synphaet Ramintra Hospital in Bangkok, where she underwent emergency brain surgery and was placed on life support.

Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Bang passed away on Aug. 13 at 7:20 am local time. Her family shared the heartbreaking news through a GoFundMe page established to help cover medical expenses.

“We are truly heartbroken by this news. However, we would like to continue to remember Jessica and celebrate her achievements, passion, and dedication to golf,” the fundraising page stated.

“As her cousins, we will forever cherish the time and memories we shared with Jessica. Her sense of humour, together with her cheerful and vibrant personality, will always be remembered and treasured by our family.”

Born in South Korea, Bang had demonstrated exceptional talent and determination on the golf course. In her fifth professional start this past November, she captured victory at the 2026 Ford Women’s NSW Open Regional Qualifying Event at Moss Vale, shooting a final-round 65 to win by five strokes while setting a course record. She also claimed the Queensland Amateur title, further establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with in women’s golf.

The WPGA Tour of Australasia released a statement honoring the young golfer’s memory and expressing condolences to those who knew her.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the WPGA Tour of Australasia and the broader Australian golf community are with Jessica’s family, friends and all those who knew and loved her at this incredibly difficult time,” the organization said.
