Blue State Governors Go SILENT After Supreme Court Destroys Their Sports Agenda

Liberty Check

  • Supreme Court just upheld laws protecting women’s sports in 27 states — yet 23 liberal-run states continue forcing girls to compete against biological males
  • Woke governors from California to New York refuse to answer basic questions about fairness after landmark ruling
  • Trump’s DOJ already filing lawsuits against states allowing boys to dominate girls’ championships

The U.S. Supreme Court has delivered a decisive victory for common sense, codifying protections in 27 states that prevent biological males from dominating women’s sports. But 23 states — nearly all run by Democrats — still allow this injustice to continue.

Fox News Digital reached out to every single governor in those 23 states. The silence from most was deafening.

California’s radical Governor Gavin Newsom doubled down on his state’s extremist policies, which have been in place for over a decade under AB 1266. His office proudly declared the Supreme Court ruling changes nothing in the Golden State.

“The Supreme Court’s decision does not affect California’s laws. The state remains committed to ensuring every Californian, including the LGBTQ community, is met with dignity and respect,”

A source inside Newsom’s office even provided a bragging list titled “Governor Newsom has the strongest record in the country on protecting and expanding transgender rights.” The list boasted about making it easier to change gender markers on official documents and appointing multiple trans judges.

Meanwhile, California faces a lawsuit from President Trump’s Department of Justice after transgender athlete AB Hernandez won back-to-back girls’ state championships in 2025 and 2026. Real female athletes were forced to watch their opportunities stolen.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker responded with nothing but a woke Twitter post attacking those who defend fairness in women’s sports.

“Going after LGBTQ+ kids isn’t leadership — it’s bullying. Today’s decision is a setback for equality in this nation where every student deserves to learn and belong, no matter their gender. To those in the LGBTQ+ community, know that there’s a place for you in Illinois,”

The Illinois High School Association continues to allow boys to compete against girls through a formal policy requiring only minimal documentation. Pritzker apparently believes protecting women is “bullying.”

Hawaii’s Department of Education told Fox News Digital the state will continue allowing males in girls’ sports, citing state anti-discrimination laws. Governor Josh Green’s office punted entirely to the education department rather than taking a stand.

“The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education will continue to implement its athletics policies in accordance with state law. The Supreme Court’s decision does not change our current policies or practices,”

At least one Republican governor is taking action. Nevada’s Joe Lombardo, who currently lacks state legislation to protect women’s sports, announced he will push for new laws in the 2027 legislative session.

“Today’s decision by the United States Supreme Court provides important legal clarity and affirms that states have the authority to protect fair competition in girls’ sports. Nevadans overwhelmingly believe that female athletes deserve a level playing field and the opportunity to compete against other biological females,”

Lombardo continued with a direct challenge to state lawmakers.

“This is no longer a question clouded by legal uncertainty. It is an opportunity for the Legislature to provide a permanent, common-sense solution that reflects both the law and the will of Nevada voters. I urge lawmakers from both parties to come together and finally settle this issue for our students, our schools, and Nevada families.”

Minnesota allows transgender athletes to compete through the State High School League on a “case-by-case” basis. President Trump’s DOJ is already suing the state after a trans pitcher led a girls’ softball team to a state championship in 2025.

Governor Tim Walz — Kamala Harris’s failed 2024 running mate — refused to comment.

Maine faces the same federal lawsuit after its Principals’ Association policy allowed biological males to compete as girls. The state’s human rights act essentially mandates these radical policies.

Governor Janet Mills, who had an infamous White House confrontation with President Trump over this exact issue in early 2025, also refused to respond to Fox News Digital’s inquiry.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis stayed silent as well, even as his state prepares for a November 2026 ballot measure that could finally mandate teams based on biological sex. Voters will have their say since their governor won’t take a stand.

The list of Democratic governors who refused to respond reads like a who’s who of the radical left: Connecticut’s Ned Lamont, Delaware’s Matt Meyer, Maryland’s Wes Moore, Massachusetts’ Maura Healey, Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, New Jersey’s Mikie Sherrill, New Mexico’s Michelle Lujan Grisham, New York’s Kathy Hochul, Oregon’s Tina Kotek, Rhode Island’s Dan McKee, Vermont’s Phil Scott, and Washington’s Bob Ferguson.

Every single one of these governors oversees states where athletic associations explicitly allow boys to compete in girls’ sports. Not one would defend their position publicly.

Four additional states have restrictions through athletic associations or education agencies rather than official state law, creating legal uncertainty. Pennsylvania’s athletic association changed course in early 2025 to comply with federal Title IX funding requirements, but Governor Josh Shapiro won’t codify protections into law.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has actively vetoed attempts to protect girls’ sports through legislation, even as the state’s athletic association adopted restrictions in February 2025. Evers also refused to comment.

Alaska’s athletic association voted in 2023 to bar transgender girls from high school girls’ sports at the request of the state board of education. Governor Mike Dunleavy didn’t respond to questions about making it official state law.

Virginia relies on Department of Education model policies requiring students to compete based on biological sex, issued under former Governor Glenn Youngkin. Current Governor Abigail Spanberger refused to clarify whether she supports continuing those protections.

The Supreme Court has spoken. Twenty-seven states have acted to protect female athletes. Yet nearly two dozen liberal governors either actively promote biological males in women’s sports or hide from the issue entirely when asked to defend their positions.

Our daughters deserve better than governors who won’t stand up for fairness and common sense.
