FCC Chairman Launches Devastating Crackdown That Has Liberal Networks in Full Panic Mode
Liberty Check
- FCC Chairman Brendan Carr is forcing ABC to produce thousands of documents in a license review targeting woke media bias
- The inquiry focuses on whether liberal talk shows like ‘The View’ deserve special exemptions from equal-time rules
- Conservative voices have been systematically shut out of network programming while left-wing hosts attack traditional values daily
The Trump administration is finally using federal regulatory authority to hold biased media outlets accountable for years of one-sided coverage. President Trump has long called out networks like CNN and The New York Times for their relentless negative reporting, but now there’s a new phase of enforcement that has liberal media executives scrambling.
The biggest target is ABC, and the network is feeling the heat.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has launched a comprehensive review of local station licenses connected to the Disney-owned network. ABC has already been forced to produce a staggering 11,000 documents in the inquiry, revealing the scope of the federal government’s determination to address media bias.
The investigation raises a critical question: Why should ABC-owned stations in major cities face license challenges when the network repeatedly refuses to provide balanced political coverage?
“The commission’s actions threaten to upend decades of settled law and practice and chill critical protected speech, both with respect to ‘The View’ and more broadly,”
ABC claimed in a legal filing. Notice how quickly they invoke “protected speech” when their own programming systematically excludes conservative perspectives.
The liberal talk show “The View,” founded by Barbara Walters in 1997, has become a focal point of the investigation. While the show claims to feature balanced perspectives, the reality is starkly different. Hosts like Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar dominate the conversation with aggressively liberal viewpoints.
Even when the show includes a token “conservative” panelist, those voices are carefully selected to be strongly anti-Trump, ensuring the program maintains its left-wing orthodoxy.
At the heart of the matter is whether programs like “The View” should continue receiving exemptions from equal-time rules. ABC claims to be part of the network’s news division, yet consistently operates as a partisan platform. The network says it has invited prominent Republicans including JD Vance, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Lindsey Graham, Josh Hawley, Elon Musk, Kevin McCarthy, and Marco Rubio.
But if conservative voices are truly welcome, why do they all decline? Perhaps because appearing on the show means being ambushed by hostile hosts in front of a liberal audience.
“The View” received its exemption as a news show back in 2002, long before it devolved into its current format of coordinated attacks on traditional values and conservative policies. Disney has tried to deflect criticism by noting the FCC hasn’t targeted conservative talk radio, but that comparison ignores a fundamental difference: talk radio hosts don’t claim news division status while hiding behind equal-time exemptions.
The regulatory scrutiny extends beyond media bias. The Trump Justice Department has pursued accountability for former FBI Director James Comey, whose actions during the 2016 election interfered with the democratic process. After an initial indictment was rejected, the department filed a narrower charge related to threatening social media posts.
Even some conservative legal commentators have questioned the strength of the case. National Review’s Andy McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor, argued that Comey’s seashell art post doesn’t constitute an actionable threat under the law.
“Sure, Comey plainly did not intend to threaten bodily harm. More fundamentally, though, even if Comey’s state of mind had been sinister, he’d still be innocent because the seashell array was not an actionable threat.”
The administration has taken other steps to address media accountability, including restructuring Pentagon press access after reporters refused to follow security protocols. President Trump has also successfully pursued legal action against networks, collecting substantial settlements from CBS and ABC for demonstrably false reporting.
Meanwhile, the media landscape continues to shift. Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and his son David purchased CBS and may soon control CNN, potentially bringing more balanced coverage to networks that have spent years serving as opposition propaganda outlets.
The FCC’s license review of ABC represents a long-overdue reckoning for an industry that has abandoned even the pretense of fairness. For decades, major networks have used their broadcast licenses—granted by the federal government to serve the public interest—to advance a narrow political agenda while excluding half the country from the conversation.
When a show like “The View” claims news division status to avoid equal-time requirements, then fills its airtime with coordinated partisan attacks, it raises legitimate questions about whether broadcasters are fulfilling their public interest obligations.
Chairman Carr isn’t silencing anyone. He’s simply asking whether networks that receive special government privileges should be held to the standards that justified those privileges in the first place.
The Constitution must be defended.
