Tens of thousands of Spanish citizens flooded the streets across their nation this week, demanding action as their government continues to fail in protecting the border. Authorities report at least 50,000 protesters descended on Madrid alone, furious at Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s disastrous handling of the ongoing migrant crisis in Spain’s North African city of Ceuta.

Violence erupted for hours after the major protests ended. Gunshots and explosions echoed throughout the night on Wednesday as tensions reached a boiling point.

Protesters carried signs with messages that left no room for interpretation: “A united Ceuta will never be defeated,” “Sánchez to prison,” and “Invaders — go home!” The anger is palpable, and it’s directed squarely at a leadership that has abandoned its duty to protect Spanish sovereignty.

Spain continues to reel from the aftermath of a staggering border breach in late July. Over 70,000 foreign migrants stormed across the border from neighboring Morocco in what can only be described as an organized invasion.

Thousands of those migrants remain in Spanish territory even now, occupying communities and straining resources. The government’s response has been nothing short of catastrophic.

“What happened to us was not a migratory crisis,” Ceuta’s regional leader, Juan Jesús Vivas, declared Wednesday.

“What happened was the violation of Spain’s territorial integrity.”

The protests erupted just days after Ceuta residents took matters into their own hands, tearing down and burning makeshift migrant shelters that had appeared in their city. When the government won’t protect you, citizens are forced to protect themselves.

Demonstrators carrying Spanish flags moved toward beachside migrant camps last week, destroying shelters and setting fires. Police scrambled to keep protesters and migrants apart as the situation spiraled, according to Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE and news agency EFE.

Meanwhile, Sanchez has done what leftist leaders always do when faced with their own failures: blame everyone else. The socialist prime minister has pointed fingers at Russia and Israel, claiming they amplified the migrant crisis via social media. He insists the July border surge resulted from a misinterpretation of a Spanish Supreme Court ruling.

Sánchez told radio station SER that research by the European Union’s diplomatic service indicated Russian and Israeli networks spread disinformation alongside far-right networks. It’s a convenient narrative that deflects from his own incompetence.

Russia wasn’t having it.

“Without facts, without materials backed up by numbers, dates, names, there is simply nothing to talk about,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told reporters.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar was even more direct, accusing Sánchez of “lying shamelessly.” He said in a post on X that the Spanish leader was attempting to divert attention from domestic policy failures.

The truth is clear: when leaders prioritize globalist ideology over national sovereignty, citizens pay the price. Spain’s border catastrophe is a warning to every nation that refuses to enforce its own laws.
