Kai Trump’s freshman season at the University of Miami has taken an unexpected turn after the 19-year-old golfer announced she underwent wrist surgery for the second time this year.
The surgery, performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, follows an injury sustained during her first college tournament in September.
Trump shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo from her hospital bed with her arm in a sling and cast.
"While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love,"
Trump explained that the decision was made with input from her family and coaches.
"It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination."
The injury occurred during a three-round tournament in Muncie, Indiana, where she played two rounds in a single day.
This latest surgery follows a previous procedure on her left wrist in January to address damage to stabilizing tissues and cartilage.
"Recovery will take time, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow,"
Trump expressed gratitude to her teammates, coaches, and family for their support during this time.
"For now, it’s all about healing, and trusting the process. I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever! Go Canes!"
