Did George Santos Deserve to Be Expelled From Congress?
Here’s the Scoop
The House of Representatives has made a momentous decision by voting to expel Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., marking him as the first House lawmaker to face such a fate in over two decades.
The weight of this decision, underscored by a rare bipartisan vote of 311 to 114, brings to the forefront the question of accountability and integrity within the hallowed halls of Congress.
Santos, who has not been convicted of a crime, faces indictment on 23 counts, including wire fraud and identity theft, among others. His alleged misuse of campaign funds for personal luxuries like botox treatments has tainted his reputation and called into question his fitness to serve.
This scandal has led to a stark division within the GOP, with some members arguing for his right to presumption of innocence and others firmly believing in the overwhelming evidence against him.
The decision to expel a member of Congress is no small matter, requiring a two-thirds majority vote. It reflects a collective judgment that the individual in question has defamed the institution they are meant to serve.
Democratic Rep. Steny Hoyer’s statement that Santos had defamed the House and was not fit to represent the people echoes the sentiment of many who supported the expulsion.
However, this action also raises critical questions about the standards we hold our elected officials to and the processes in place to ensure these standards are upheld.
Rep. Darrell Issa’s reference to the case of Sen. Bob Menendez and the ongoing debate about the presumption of innocence in such high-stakes situations adds layers to this complex issue.
In light of these developments, we ask you, our readers: Did George Santos deserve to be expelled from Congress?
Is this a necessary step to maintain the integrity of our legislative body, or does it set a concerning precedent for the future handling of accusations against lawmakers?
Your voice is crucial in this debate about ethics, justice, and the role of our elected representatives. Vote now and share your perspective on this pivotal issue in American politics.

Sure he did. Many more deserve it for very similar reasons, and worse reasons.

He violated his oath of office. He did not represent his district with honor.

One of the reasons many Americans dislike politicians is because so many appear to be crooks using their office to enrich themselves. Term limits would stop a lot of this, however congress will not put that up for a vote as many take advantage of the office they hold and will not vote to oust themselves. That fact alone should be reason enough for citizens to demand their congress critters to bring that bill forward. Congress was never designed to be what many deem lifetime appointments.

The key here is the fact that he has only been accused – not charged – not convicted. Many others have been accused of far worse and never charged. Unlike our former POTUS that is charged with outrageous charges for the sake of political motives. If Santos were charged and convicted, then no question. The fact is that he lacks the tenure and corruption that many others enjoy in both houses of government….

Lying, for any reason, proves that he/she is not fit for public office, proving that one can never be trusted with such an influential position. The same holds true for any public office and, in fact IMO, in any and all situations in life!!

If this is the case 13 Rinos then, took ‘donations’ from FTX and refuses to return to the investors who were ripped off by Bankman-Freid. Pelosi, Waters, and others- took FTX $ and not returned. isn’t this theft then? AOC OMAR BUSH PRESSLY LEE Tlaib and many others should also be expelled. Schiff for his constant lying. The entire J6 committee. If lying is a prerequisite to being expelled 90% of congress/senate would also be expelled. Taking $, using for other reasons- investigate and find they ALL most likely did! How about insider trading? All those pointing a finger have 3 pointing right back. (FBI arrest 3 asian’s Brothel- who supposedly have meticulous record keeping- investigate and I bet Tricky Dicky Durben may? How many ‘politicians enjoyed ‘services’?) Why is Durben blocking Lolita express flight logs? How many would be left if they were all held to the same standards that they expelled Santos for. It was unconstitutional. He was NOT convicted. Bowman for pulling Fire Alarm- IS A Felony- why not expel him? Tlaib, the squad and their Hama, Capital rotunda was taken over, damage was done and ?? as SHE riled up.

No, he did not. His expulsion was a scorched earth campaign led by Kevin McCarthy, the ousted Speaker and leader of the DC Uniparty. Menendez is still there and he’s done far worse. Santos got expelled because he votes with the MAGA people and the DC Uniparty can’t have that. This is why we need term limits for ALL three branches.

YES He definitely deserved to be expelled what people in politics fail to realize is there not immune from the laws of this country, and when you defy the laws you deserve to be
punished. This is exactly what Sorso did.I think he’s been corrupt for awhile and finally got caught
