Should Chinese Nationals Be Allowed To Purchase US Property?

Should Chinese Nationals Be Allowed To Purchase US Property?

Here’s the Scoop

In a decisive move reflecting growing concerns over national security and the sanctity of American soil, the U.S. Senate, with overwhelming bipartisan support, has voted to include an amendment in the crucial national defense bill.

This amendment seeks to block foreign adversaries, notably countries like China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran, from purchasing American agricultural land.

The amendment, spearheaded by Senators Jon Tester (D-MT) and Mike Rounds (R-SD), comes amid heightened alarm over attempts by foreign powers to acquire land in proximity to U.S. military bases.

A recent attempt by a Chinese government-linked company to buy land near a key military drone base in North Dakota has underscored the urgency of this issue. This legislative move is a clear response to the reports of China posing an increasing national security risk through such acquisitions.

The proposed amendment empowers the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to scrutinize and potentially halt future farmland purchases by foreign adversaries. This reflects a growing recognition that food security is intertwined with national security, as underscored by Senator Tester.

With the backdrop of foreign ownership of U.S. land nearly doubling in the past decade, and China holding a small but significant portion of this foreign-owned land, the amendment echoes the sentiment that “America is not for sale.”

This stance is bolstered by state-level efforts, with states like Florida joining others in banning foreign ownership of farmland, especially by China.

As we confront these critical issues of national security, property rights, and the integrity of American land, we turn to you, our readers: Should Chinese nationals be allowed to purchase U.S. property, or is it time to firmly close the door on such foreign investments to safeguard our nation’s interests?

This is more than a policy debate; it’s a question of the future security and sovereignty of American soil. Cast your vote and let your voice be heard in this vital national discussion.

If we outlaw these people , what about all the domestic enemies we have here . Our demise will NOT be from foreign powers but from internal enemies !

I don’t think any foreign country should own land in the U.S. I also don’t think Bill Gates should be allowed to purchase any more land. He is the largest owner of farmland in the U.S. He owns 270,000 acres. I think he is an internal enemy and I think he bought for nefarious reasons.

270,000 acres is not that much: 421.875 square miles. That’s almost exactly half the area of Jacksonville, Florida (840 sq. mi.). King Ranch in Texas (admittedly not “farmland”) is 825,000 acres. The Emerson family of California owns 2.4 million acres of land. Ted Turner owns 2 million acres of actual farmland while Jeff Bezos owns over 420,000 acres. Gates’ holdings are not that big and he certainly isn’t “the largest owner of farmland in the U.S.”. Your paranoia and inability to get facts straight makes us all look bad.

Can Americans buy property in China? I am guessing NOT. So what is good for the goose should also apply to the gander. Furthermore we have SO much evidence of china’s malfeasance from spying, students coming here and stealing technology, pumping ingredients to Mexico to produce fentanyl, not to mention unfair trade practices while continuing to call China a developing nation when they are the 2 nd largest economy in the world and are building 2 coal fired power plants a week. They don’t have any mandates to reduce, while here in America we are being asked to destroy our economy.

I don’t think any foreign that are enemies of the U.S. should be able to buy our land. I also don’t think Bill Gates should be able to purchase any more land. He is the largest individual landowner in the U.S.He owns 270,000 acres of farmland. He has some really weird ideas about population control, what we should eat and cars we should drive.I think the man is evil and dangerous.
