Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

Here’s the Scoop

The perennial debate over the seasonal greeting — “Merry Christmas” vs. “Happy Holidays” — encapsulates a larger cultural and ideological battle in America. In a country rich with diversity and a broad spectrum of beliefs, this simple choice of words has become a lightning rod in the ongoing discourse about tradition, inclusion, and the role of religion in public life.

For many, “Merry Christmas” is a cherished expression, a cornerstone of Christian heritage and a reflection of America’s historical roots. It signifies more than just a greeting; it’s a declaration of the values and traditions that have long shaped the holiday season.

However, critics argue that in a pluralistic society, “Happy Holidays” is a more inclusive and respectful acknowledgment of the myriad of cultural and religious celebrations occurring during this time of year.

This debate goes beyond mere semantics; it touches upon the broader issues of religious freedom, political correctness, and the evolving nature of societal norms.

As America grapples with these complex questions, we invite you, our readers, to weigh in: Should the traditional “Merry Christmas” continue to be the standard holiday greeting, or is “Happy Holidays” a more appropriate and inclusive alternative?

Your voice is a crucial part of this conversation about identity, tradition, and respect in a changing America. Vote now and let us know where you stand in this annual debate.

Twenty years ago my uncle sold his california home and moved to Bend Oregon. The money he sold his corner lot and home for, he was able to buy six two acre lots North of Bend and build the home of his dreams. Three years later he sold one of these 2 acre lots for more than he paid for the entire six lots. All of the family members have moved out of there and no one has any plans to move back.

Lets be clear Liberals: THERE WOULD BE NO CHRISTMAS WITHOUT CHRIST – You have tried to X Him out, make it just a Season or a holiday, but those who have Relationship with the Father have relationship with the SON and Vice Versa. Christ – Was is all about a Saviour Who took on Everyones sin, past present and future and all we need to do is confess that He is Lord while we are here, because EVERYONE WILL CONFESS. However Here is when we can have a living Relationship with the Living Saviour Who Died for You to give you that gift of salvation, that no one else, no other sacrifice could give or make. A Holy God chose to give up His throne in heaven take on sin, face every challenge and temptation and walk free to the Cross, that HE could have pulled Himself from, and or could have called angels to remove Him, but He died there for you so HE COULD RISE AGAIN and Defeat Death on your behalf not His.
Christ is Christmas and with out Him in it there is no holiday, no season, no Hope and No relationship to your Creator, despite what you may think. Every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess and dont be one who has to have it pulled from your gut and mind, a squeeze on whats left of your spirit to do. Its a free will choice and if you dont make it: Pfft

Actually, the festivities that we now use to celebrate Christmas originated with Pagans long before Jesus walked the earth. In fact, they were banned by early Puritans in this country because of that. The Pagans celebrated the solstice with many traditions that became Christian traditions too.

I use both – I try to wish people greetings for whatever holiday they celebrate. I have no problem with Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Season’s Greetings, etc. I value all celebrations and respect their traditions. It’s common decency.

Let’s be clear everything changes with time, and I think people should say what they are comfortable with if it’s Merry Christmas say that if it’s Happ holidays or seasons greetings say that.my preference is Merry Christmas .IN this society now you have to do and say things s certain way, WHY IS THAT I’LL TELL YOU WHY THEY WANT TO CONTROL THE WORDS THAT COME OUT OF OUR MOUTH.Untill this is not a free and fair country day what’s best for you to say.
Next there’ll be a problem with Happy New Year and then Happy Easter.
For Pete’s Sake let people live

Christmas is my holiday and will I NOT allow anyone take that away from me. I say Merry Christmas and if anyone is offended by it since I don’t know what their religion is, that’s their problem NOT mine. There are groups out there that want to do away with Christ, Christmas, religions that are different from theirs, tough! The last I checked, this is still a free country, NOT a Socialist/Marxist/Communist country, even though these groups want to make these changes so WE THE PEOPLE do not have any rights. I make sure I say “Merry Christmas” and the cards I purchase MUST say “Merry Christmas” or I don’t buy any cards until I find exactly what I’m looking for.
