Do You Support Martina Navratilova’s Criticism of USA Fencing’s Stance on Trans Athletes?
Here’s The Scoop
In a bold stand for fairness in women’s sports, tennis legend Martina Navratilova has taken a firm stance against USA Fencing after a female fencer, Stephanie Turner, was penalized for refusing to compete against a transgender athlete at the Cherry Blossom Open in Maryland. Turner’s decision to take a knee rather than face trans athlete Redmond Sullivan resulted in a severe penalty—a black card—and her subsequent removal from the event. This incident has sparked a heated debate on social media, with Navratilova leading the charge.
Navratilova, a vocal advocate for maintaining fairness in women’s sports, expressed her outrage on social media, stating, “This is what happens when female athletes protest! Anyone here still thinks this is fair??? I am fuming… and shame on @USAFencing, shame on you for doing this. How dare you throw women under the gender bulls— bus!!!”
Former NCAA fencer Juliana Peceli also voiced her support for Turner, highlighting the challenges female athletes face when competing against biological males. “As a retired D1 @NCAA fencer, I was forced to compete against men who claimed to be women. Female athletes dedicate our lives to our sport, only to have men take our spots, our titles, and our future,” she wrote, applauding those who stand against what she sees as an injustice.
USA Fencing defended its actions by citing its 2023 policy on transgender and non-binary athletes, which aims to create inclusive spaces in the sport. They claim Turner’s penalty was not for her stance but for refusing to compete, as per the rules of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). However, this explanation has done little to quell the controversy.
Turner, who has recently shifted her political allegiance from Democrat to Republican, expressed her disillusionment with the mainstream narrative. “I voted red down the ticket this year,” she revealed, describing her change in perspective as a wake-up call to the “lies of the mainstream media.”
This incident underscores a growing divide in the sports community over the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports, a topic that continues to resonate with many who are concerned about preserving fair competition. As the debate rages on, voices like Navratilova’s and Turner’s are amplifying the call for a reevaluation of policies that affect the integrity of women’s sports.

Martina wouldn’t be a household name if she had to compete against transgender athletes. Sport entities that support transgender agendas belittle women and destroy self-worth

Her stance made all the more relevant because it’s coming from someone actually IN the alphabet-soup community (lesbian).
