Conservatives have long championed free speech, even as it faces threats from cancel culture and leftist censorship. It’s curious that these activists now echo a sentiment conservatives have defended for years.

Josh from Queens dreams of a nation where citizens aren’t afraid to exercise their constitutional rights. Yet, it seems he overlooks the fact that the very freedoms he cherishes have been under siege by progressive policies that stifle dissenting voices. Conservatives understand that true freedom comes from protecting these rights, not redefining them to fit a particular agenda.

The case of Mahmoud Khalil, a former Columbia University student arrested for not disclosing ties to a Palestinian agency, underscores the complexities of free speech. While some see it as a First Amendment issue, others recognize the importance of national security and the rule of law.

Diversity and LGBTQ+ rights were also hot topics at the protest. May from Manhattan and Mary from Queens envision an America where diversity and peace reign supreme. Yet, the current administration’s efforts to curb divisive identity politics and restore merit-based systems are seen as a threat by these activists. The truth is, diversity should not come at the expense of unity and fairness.

But conservatives know that true greatness comes from empowering individuals to succeed on their own merits, not through government handouts. The Trump administration’s push to eliminate wasteful spending and focus on merit-based success is a step in the right direction.

Wendy, a New Jersey professor, advocates for a social safety net for all. Yet, with $236 billion in improper payments for social programs in 2023 alone, according to the GAO, conservatives rightly question the sustainability and efficiency of such proposals.
