In a bold move to bolster national security, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced a significant enhancement to the southern border wall, a key initiative of the Trump administration. The entire wall will be painted black, a strategic decision aimed at increasing its effectiveness as a deterrent to illegal crossings.
Speaking from Santa Teresa, New Mexico, Noem detailed the dual benefits of this new paint job. The black paint will absorb more heat, making the wall more challenging to climb, while also extending the metal’s lifespan. This initiative comes directly at the request of President Donald Trump, who has consistently prioritized border security.
“If you look at the structure that’s behind me, it’s tall, which makes it very, very difficult to climb, almost impossible. It also goes deep into the ground, which would make it very difficult, if not impossible, to dig under. And today we are also going to be painting it black,” Noem stated, underscoring the administration’s commitment to a robust and secure border.
This move is part of a larger effort funded by a significant congressional bill passed in July, which Noem praised for providing the necessary resources to continue wall construction. The wall is progressing at an impressive rate of nearly half a mile per day, with additional investments in technology, cameras, sensors, and waterborne infrastructure to ensure long-term security.
Noem emphasized the administration’s comprehensive approach to border security, extending efforts to the northern border as well. “Remember that a nation without borders is no nation at all,” she remarked, highlighting the importance of a secure border to America’s future.
Joining Noem were several Border Patrol agents, including Interim Chief Patrol Agent Walter Slosar of the El Paso Sector. Slosar reported a dramatic decrease in illegal crossings, with agents now apprehending an average of 41 individuals per day, a stark contrast to the 2,300 daily crossings under the Biden administration in 2023.
Slosar noted the improved morale among Border Patrol agents, who are now empowered to enforce the law effectively. “We’re apprehending those individuals. Our gotaways are the lowest they’ve ever been,” he said, praising the administration’s efforts to apply consequences and collaborate with ICE to remove illegal entrants.
This initiative underscores the Trump administration’s unwavering dedication to securing America’s borders and upholding the rule of law. With strong leadership and decisive action, the message is clear: illegal entry into the United States will not be tolerated.
